I had the same problem, it's because of a recent flash update. You have to download an old version of adobe flash and run it locally from the direct link they have up there.

Are you sure you can play the game with your suggested method?
I have extracted and dragged the swf file into Adobe flashplayer_32_sa.exe. Still, it cannot be played. There are many bugs.
